October 28, 2024 Release Notes
This October release implements the new FY25 CMS defined focused populations.
Notes:
- The "CMS Readmissions and Mortality Population (Current)" prompt folder now includes the new FY2025 CMS defined focused populations
- The previous populations from the Current prompt folder are now shifted to the Historical prompt folder*
- The populations that were previously in the Historical prompt folder are now removed**
*As per usual, if no changes are made to a specific population between CMS fiscal years, then the existing version of the population is considered "current" and will be retained in the current folder. If a focused population has no changes between the FY24 and FY25 version, a tag is added to the name of the current population to indicate which FY is valid (e.g., Acute Myocardial Infarction - CMS Readmission and Mortality (FY23-FY25)).
**In cases where no changes are made to a specific population, resulting in the population remaining in the Current folder, the existing Historic version for the population is not retired and remains in the Historic folder.
Important Note:
- Remember to update your Saved Analyses, Saved Selections and/or Favorites. These options are not updated with the new CMS defined focused population definitions and will continue to use selections from what may now be the Historical CMS defined focused populations, or populations no longer available in QualityAdvisor. If your prompt selections include a historical version of the CMS defined focused populations that have since been removed/retired from QualityAdvisor, your analysis results will only include data for those focused populations still available within QualityAdvisor

The FY2025 ICD-10 Code Table Appendix is now available on the ICD-10 Focused Population (Current) page.
Each year, Premier reviews current clinical populations that are available within our tools and revises or adds new ones based on updated coding and programmatic changes.
The following updates are included with this release:
-
Severe Sepsis with or without Septic Shock — This is a new population added to all Standard Analyses (Facility and Peer, 3M and CareScience) and Custom Query. It will be available for discharges 10/1/2019 and forward. The flowchart for the new Premier Defined population is now posted on the ICD-10 Focused Population (Current) page
Note: This population does not factor whether COVID-19 is present on admission or not like other Premier-Defined Focused Populations. This is expected due to the intention to align this population with the CMS core measure population -
COVID-19 - Inpatient — Flowchart updated to include patients if the principal diagnosis is COVID or if they have a secondary diagnosis of COVID that was POA (present on admission). Effective for patient discharges 10/1/2024 and forward only
-
Spinal Fusion Dorsal Lumbar Spine — New codes added
-
Vascular Surgery — New codes added
Note: Since POA is not required to be submitted for Outpatients, the COVID-19 Outpatient population remains unchanged.
We have made a small enhancement to the new ICU Outcomes Comparison Analysis, which was released in August 2024.
The “Mortality in ICU - Top 10 MS-DRG Standard Age by Race“ graphs now include a data grid to display the Denominator, Observed, and O/E values for the standard age by race. The graphs themselves are not changing.
Facility Version Enhancements:
-
Row headers: Standard Age Grouping, Race
-
Columns: Mortality in ICU (Den), Mortality in ICU Observed, Mortality in ICU O/E
Peer Version Enhancements
-
Row headers: Standard Age Grouping, Race
-
Columns: Facility Mortality in ICU (Den), Facility Mortality in ICU Observed, Facility Mortality in ICU O/E, Peer Mortality in ICU O/E
Facility Sample
Notes:
-
Drill maps are disabled from the grid
